Madrone Cove Campground

           Information and Site Descriptions

Boat ABBoat Access Only - Tent Camping Only

NO Vehicle Access - NO Water - Vault Toilets

Madrone Cove Campground is located up the Yuba River arm (left arm) of the reservoir, approximately 6 miles from the Dark Day Launch Ramp and 10 miles from the Cottage Creek Launch Ramp (at the dam).

The campsites are located above the high water line, on the west side of the reservoir.  The easiest access into the campground is from the trail that leads from the shoreline, past Site #1.

Reservoir water levels drop through the summer camping season.  As a result, the distance you have to hike into the campground increases over the summer months.  It is wise to take this fact into account when planning what equipment to bring.

Each site has a fire ring, a Klondike stove and 1 picnic table.

Reservations reqire a 2 night minimum / 3 nights on holidays

Occupancy limits are strictly enforced by the U.S. Forest Service.

#1      Site 1 has a view with some sun, on the bluff above the water.  There is room for one large and one small tent.  The hillside in front of the site is fairly steep.

#2      This site is about 100 feet above the high water line with steps to the site.  There is room for one large and one small tent.  It does get some sun.

#3      This site is closest to the waterline when the reservoir is full.  There is room for one large tent only.  It is closest to the shoreline at high water, and is open with the most sun of all the sites.

#4      The site is roomy and looks down on site #3.  It gets some sun.  It is 120 feet from the high water line.  There is room for one large and one small tent.

#5      This site is in the middle of the campground.  It gets some sun.  It is 120 feet from the high water line.  There is room for one large and (maybe) one small tent.

#6      There is only room for one large tent.  The site is located 60 feet above the restrooms so there isn’t much of a view.  It is 160 feet from the high water line.

#7      This site is directly above #8.  There is room for one large and one small tent.  It is 80 feet from the high water line.

#8      This site has relatively easy access to the shoreline.  There is room for one large and one small tent.  It is 40 feet from the high water line.

#9      This site has a view with room for one large and one medium tent.  It gets some sun.  It works well in combination with #10.  It is 75 feet from the high water line and 200 feet from site #8.  The beach front is muddy.

#10    There is room for one large tent and one small tent in this site.  It is very shady and a bit muddy.  There are steep steps to the site from the shoreline, or you can get to it from the trail by site #1.  It is 50 feet from the high water line.
